National Pets Day - Friday 04-11-2025

Friday April 11th is an important day for all in the veterinary world as it is National Pets Day! We appreciate all our animals companions every day of the year, but today is a day to recognize the special connection we have with all of the non-human animals we invite to share our homes with us. We at Affectionately Cats obviously have a particular fondness for felines, but know how rewarding it is to live with dogs, cats, horses, birds, reptiles, fish, and invertebrates!

“National Pets Day” is the creation of Colleen Paige, an animal behaviorist and advocate, who has added a number of other animal-focused holidays to the calendar including National Cat Day and National Kitten Day. Today is the purr-fect day to spend an extra few minutes with your cat; playing with them, snuggling them, petting them, or giving them an extra treat or two. Cats thrive off of challenges and stimulation, so new toys or feeding puzzles are a great way to keep their minds and bodies active throughout their lifetimes.
Naturally we recommend regular veterinary checkups for your cats to keep them healthy and capable of living their best lives. At Affectionately Cats we try to make your cats’ medical checkups as calm and stress free as we can, so that vet visits don’t become a source of anxiety or trauma for anyone in the household.

Today is the perfect day to let all your animal companions know how much they are appreciated. Spending time with pets is beneficial for them and us. Give your cat some extra play time today or bring home a new toy; take your dog on a long walk with new smells; feed your reptile some juicy goodies; give your horse some turnout time and affection. The animal kingdom is filled with a wide variety of species that make wonderful companions for humans, each with their own unique needs and habitat requirements. Our pets reflect our own individuality and often help us realize what we value most in life, in a way that only they can.
