American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Releases Fact Sheet Re: H5N1 in Cats & Warning About Raw Diets 02-26-25
The American Veterinary Medical Association recently released a helpful and informative article about cats and their susceptibility to Avian Influenza A H5N1 (Bird flu). Current information indicates that unpasteurized milk and raw or undercooked poultry are most often the source of infection and issued the below warning. “Raw diets: A warning - Unpasteurized milk and raw or undercooked meat—including retail pet diets that contain raw meat—have been linked to severe illness and death from H5N1 in pet cats and captive big cats.”
